UL Fire Safety
Research Institute
This experiment, a replicate of Experiment 1, was intended to examine the extent of fire damage inside a typical single-story structure without any open doors or windows. The fire was ignited in the living room. The fire developed and became ventilation limited. The structure remained closed until the fire reduced the level of oxygen within the structure below what was needed for flaming combustion. In other words, the fire was extinguished due to a local oxygen deficiency.
